MOVE.ME

Shadow, Movement & Everyday Expression
MOVE.ME is a shadow-based exploration of everyday gestures, group dynamics, and self-expression. Through performative video and silhouette play, students reflect on how the body can tell stories—without ever showing a face.

Context

Hort  Dinglingerschule, April 2024

At the Hort of Dinglingerschule, a mixed group of 1st to 3rd graders created short shadow performances that reflected their daily routines and playful gestures. The final videos were shaped collaboratively, using iPads and polaroid documentation.

Helmholtz Oberschule, 2023 & 2024

At Helmholtz Oberschule, all five 9th-grade classes took part in individual one-day sessions. Working with mobile shadow walls, they explored movement patterns and social rituals within school life. Their videos reflected not only their physical presence but the complexity of acting in a group.

Sankt Afra Gymnasium, 2023

At Sankt Afra Gymnasium, students reflected on their everyday gestures and group routines through shadow play and performative sequences. The project focused on translating classroom actions into symbolic and abstract visual stories.

Diderot Oberschule, 2023, 2024, 2025

At Diderot Oberschule, MOVE.ME has become a recurring workshop format for 9th-grade students. Year after year, students reflect on their evolving identities and shared spaces through shadow-based video sequences and creative movement work.

Our approach

Each MOVE.ME project uses performance, collective reflection, and mobile shadow installations to turn ordinary gestures into performative language. Students sketch, film, and co-direct their sequences in small groups—supported by “Think-Pair-Share” methods and peer feedback. Final videos are edited by edugrapes, using visual inputs and dramaturgical decisions made by the students.

Outcomes & Impact

From the smallest gestures to complex group actions, MOVE.ME gives young participants a space to see themselves—and each other—in new ways. The result: a growing collection of performative videos that celebrate silent expression, collaboration, and the creative power of shadow.
